Talk to many health-conscious consumers today about pet personal care products, and one of their main topics of concern is the use of chemicals on pets.
Many or most pet-care products contain chemicals. Pets cannot tell us if a product is causing them discomfort, which is the reason Bradfield’s Natural Pet Care exists today.
Shampoos
Many shampoos contain sodium laurel sulphate. The Journal of the American College of Toxicology notes that this ingredient has a "degenerative effect on the cell membranes because of its protein denaturing properties." What's more, the journal adds, "high levels of skin penetration may occur at even low use concentration." In short: avoid it… Most shampoos also contain many hard-to pronounce names in their listed ingredients, most of which are chemicals of some kind; some decidedly nasty. Many have instructions that say, “Don’t dispose into waterways,” or “wear gloves, & wash hands after use.” I question using such products.
Flea & tick shampoos are nothing but poisons. Many pets will undergo a noticeable change in behaviour, & show signs of distress soon after one of these shampoos have been applied. This is entirely due to the effects of poisoning. It is worth noting that as we pat and cuddle our animals, many of the chemicals in these shampoos can easily be absorbed through skin layers from contact we have with our pets. Just think what your pet is absorbing !!
Bradfield’s Regular & Citrus Shampoos
In contrast, here there are no chemicals, but mild surfactants (the soapy part) & other natural ingredients. The Regular Shampoo contains 6 essential oils. These do 2 things: (1) If your pet is washed 3-4 annually, it will stay flea & tick free, all year round. (2) Your pet will be safely clean, with healthy skin and improved coat appearance, with a glossy finish. The oils in the regular shampoo have many properties: Geranium oil: anti-parasitic. Rosewood oil: excellent for wounds and promotes healing. Lavender oil: anti-parasitic; will soothe itchy fleabites while fragrance will fumigate. Opoponax oil: anti-parasitic. Bay leaf oil: anti-bacterial and anti-parasitic. Helps fungal infections. Will soothe itchy fleabites while fragrance will fumigate. Myrrh oil: antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial. The benefits of myrrh oil include treating a variety of skin conditions.
The Citrus Shampoo contains pure orange oil pressed from the orange peel. This shampoo works very similarly to the regular shampoo in keeping pets bug-free, and encouraging a healthy skin & coat, with a glossy finish. It also smells great. Bugs hate the smell of citrus. For they’re our shampoos you don’t need gloves, (unless your skin is very sensitive), they’re safe in waterways, & it’s biodegradable.
Bradfield’s 4 in 1
As they said in the movie “Highlander”, “there can only be one,” & this product is the only one of its type in the world. It’s chemical-free, made from natural plant oils, like tea-tree, & eucalyptus to name a few.
Imagine your pet has an accident & toilets on the floor. This product cleans it up, kill the germs, eliminates the odours, & you sanitise your hands afterwards. It’s magic. Also its a Repellent, it works inside or outside the home, excellent for applying in areas you don’t want your pet to toilet in. Will also stop scratching, clawing, or chewing of furniture, furnishings, rubbish bags etc. and cats from spraying where applied.
areas that cats spray. Use on rubbish bags; it stops scratching & clawing. Odour Neutraliser: Will absorb odour molecules on contact, including smoke, kitchen smells, urine odour. Eliminates pet odour. Will work on anything including styrene odours. Sanitiser/Disinfectant: In conjunction with the above, you kill most germs, including Ecoli. Cleaner: As a cleaner for hard services.
Bradfield’s Pet Calmer
Like Rescue Remedy, developed for people in the 1930s, Bradfield’s Pet Calmer is based on a very similar concept.
We use 7 different flower essences, with French brandy as a preservative. Pets are like us, or as I often say, they are just little furry people. They also have many situations in their lives that will be stressful for them. Pet Calmer is an effective, safe way to help relieve these symptoms, calming them, without any fear of overuse.
Flea & Tick Carpet Spray
We use linalool which is derived from lavender; nice-smelling, leaving a pleasant scent wherever applied. We add sesame oil which acts like a supercharger, increasing the effectiveness of its kill rate. With sprays used on carpet and bedding, , it is extremely important not to use poisons, because of our proximity to them day by day. The implications are that these poisons pose dangers to us all. With particular concern for children, we note that many chemical sprays also include growth regulators (super poisons). These poisons can be absorbed the through the skin. Avoid.
Omega 3
Omega 3 fatty acids are popular supplements, recommended by many veterinarians, and not just for treating allergies or skin conditions in pets. They are highly recommended in cases of kidney disease, elevated cholesterol, and arthritis as well. Veterinarians are discovering that Omega 3 fatty acids can be valuable for a variety of conditions. Some of the conditions or disorders that positively react to fish or flaxseed oil for dogs:
- Allergies and auto-immune conditions. Many skin conditions are due to the lack of Omega 3.
- Arthritis: "Omega 3 can reduce damage to the tissue that lines the joint surface (cartilage) by decreasing the activity of enzymes in arthritis." (University of Liverpool. ) Shown to be key for healthy joint cartilage.
- Different inflammatory disorders like, ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease. Rheumatoid arthritis may also respond to the anti-inflammatory effects of Omega 3 essential fatty acids.
- Omega 3 promotes better skin and a beautiful coat.
Ear Cleaner
Many ear cleaners use boric acid, & salicylic acid. Both these products work on burning rather than cleaning. Salicylic acid is often used to burn age spots from skin. It’s a very difficult chemical to purchase. I wonder why? Again, avoid products like these. Why on earth would anyone put these in or near your beloved pets’ ears ?!!!
We use pure alcohol, citrus oils, sweet almond oil, & tea-tree oils. They will take care of all the problems without using the slash and burn principle. Bradfield’s ear cleaner will not leave the ear oily. Citrus oils: Clean, dry, anti-inflammatory. Inhibit microbial growth, and disinfect. USP isopropyl alcohol: dries up any moisture in the ear that can facilitate fungal or bacterial growth. Tea tree oil: anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, antifungal, & anti-inflammatory. Sweet almond oil: carrier oil. Conditions the skin, soothes skin irritations, relieves.
As with all conditions, if symptoms persist; always see your vet.
